Learning to Talk With the Young Tech Crowd

Okay, so the young tech crowd (especially in San Francisco) seems to speak differently. I've had to quickly learn a few terms and expressions, and I figured I'd share these with the other oldies who're around.

bullish / ˈbʊl ɪʃ /

You really believe something will succeed/take off.

bearish / ˈbɛər ɪʃ /

You really don't believe something will succeed/take off.

goated / goʊtɪd /

Best in the West. Use sparingly, else it loses its meaning.

sus / sʌs /

Short for "suspicious".

lit / lɪt /

Nobody says this anymore.

locked in / lɑkt ɪn /

In a state of flow, doing deep work. Do not distract someone who is "locked in". See also.

based / beɪst /

This one I've honestly just given up on trying to understand.

low-key / ˈloʊˈki /

Something that's not terribly relevant, but also quite important in a weird way.

bruh / brə /

I think it's the new "dude"? If someone calls you this, you now properly belong. Unfortunately, seems to be a bit male-oriented (just like "dude").

savage / ˈsæv ɪdʒ /

A cooler word for "brutal".

I realize I'm only making myself more of a boomer by writing this blog post, but I'm just trying to be helpful.
